Honoka'a Elementary continues to focus on Common Core Standards Based curriculum, instruction and assessment.

For Reading, Honoka`a Elementary has adopted the reading Wonders program which is based on Common Core StandardsFor math, Honoka'a Elementary will be using newly adopted programs; Stepping Stones for grades K-5 and Go Math for grade 6. We will continue to provide differentiation and targeted instruction to support students.

All classes have an intervention block three times a week where all students are provided supports needed to make adequate progress toward grade level standards.  Students identified to need additional support are provided with additional reading and mathematics instruction.

To better support students the school will implement Advancement Via Individual Determination or AVID. The focus will be to provide students with organizational strategies to succeed across all grade levels and promote college and career readiness.

A social-emotional curriculum called Second Step has been implemented and this year a school wide focus will be added each month to focus attention around these very important skills required for students to have healthy relationships, become problem solvers and to maximize their learning potential.  www.secondstep.org/elementary-school-curriculum
